The Cold War
as a kid in the early eighties new wave pop music of was a fitting soundtrack to the frozen landscapes of a Canadian winter. the blend of new technologies with a post-punk attitude intensified by a reawakening of Cold War tensions altered the narrative of pop music. icy synths, effected guitars and stark drum machines reflected the societal anxiety of hurtling toward an unknown future. as a younger version of myself looked over the ice and snow, unsure of my own place in the world, this sound made sense. still does.
