Rock Stars Say The Darndest Things

part of the magic of rock’n’roll is absurdity. i mean it wasn’t just the pounding drums and squealing guitars that terrified the squares. it was the loud music combined with the lunatic ravings of a madman that pushed them over the edge. in that spirit here is just over 90 minutes of crazy foolishness, preposterous nonsense and stupid silly lyrical absurdities from some bona fide rock stars. a-wop-bomp-a-loo-wop-a-lomp-bam-boom!

Sex and Violence

five years ago i was gearing up to make the 100th mix for this website. around the same time a new friend and documentary film maker became curious about my record obsession and mentioned that he would like to film me while i was creating a mix. the combination of a film and the 100th post meant i had to take a unique approach to this mix. which got me to thinking about Monty Python’s Flying Circus and the absurdly clever way in which the episodes evolved. i wanted to make a mix like that; so i mapped out the first Monty Python episode Whither Canada?, noting all the skits, bits and segues. then i choose music, dialogue and sound effects and, while using the episode breakdown as guide, made a new journey. keep in mind this isn’t an attempt to soundtrack the show, it’s more about creating something completely different. to better understand i suggest watching Vincent Guignard‘s The Luv Of Music and then listen to luv136 Whither Canada?

now to the mix at hand. a follow up mix that gets it’s cues from the second Monty Python’s Flying Circus episode intriguingly titled Sex and Violence.
