Services Rendered

on the bayou someone’s doing something they’re not suppose to. orders came from The Top Boss and they were told to clean up their mess. enter Nicky McGuire, shambles of a man but one hell of a private investigator. he’s brought on to the case as bodies start to pile up. after a few strange encounters McGuire starts looking for the real killer but comes up empty handed. almost giving up the ghost when that sketchy bastard Cadell shows up and tells McGuire that the dude he is looking for is Blabby, “he’ll tell you everything.”

Nicky heads straight to Mickey’s Monkey, a sleazy dive just a few blocks away and unsurprisingly finds Blabby sitting at the end of the bar. a short conversation later they head out to McGuire’s beat up sedan. once on the road they notice they’re being followed. “time to shake these bozos”. a ridiculous car chase ensues. after a few close calls Nicky gets the dirt from Blabby by convincing him that the crime syndicate he’s a two-bit small time player for has been trying to frame him for the murders. Blabby spills the beans. the killer is Dexter Hawthorne, a known psychopath whose been evading justice for years. The Top Boss hired Dexter to clean up a few loose ends.

McGuire eyes the nearest payphone and pulls over to call his connection at the local P. D. tells them The Top Boss has been orchestrating the string of murders across the city using Hawthorne as his muscle. they co-ordinate a plan to take down The Top Boss once and for all. the police, McGuire and Blabby arrive at T.T.B. headquarters at the same time and everything goes sideways. gunshots, explosions, chases, fights, clever banter, all culminating into a spectacular take down of the whole crime syndicate.

once everything settles down and the criminals are rounded up, either hauled off to jail or taken to the morgue, Nicky approaches his buddy on the force. they say their goodbyes with an aside about sending a bill to the city for his services. then an exhausted Nicky McGuire climbs back into his car and drives off into the night. pleased with the day’s events but still weary of what lurks on the city streets as police sirens wail in the distance.

Our Love Will Still Be There

on the heels of summer comes the latest edition of the Summer Crush series and the sixteenth anniversary mixtape for dj luv’s records. this collection of mid sixties rock ‘n’ soul continues the themes of lovin’, dancin’, huggin’, squeezin’ and groovin’ good times of previous editions. the mixes from this series were the ones my parents enjoyed the most. they are both gone now and i miss them everyday. i hope wherever they are they can feel these luv vibrations and get their groove on.

Non-Contact Bodywork

“bodywork” is understood as paid work performed on the bodies of others. the term emerges from studies on nursing and care work but has been expanded to include massage, alternative therapies and sex work. all of these professions rely on physical contact. djs perform a non-contact form of bodywork using their skills of playing and mixing music to elicit a specific and collective bodily response.
