Back To The Freezer

Freezer was one of the first chill out / trip hop / electronic listening music / ambient drum’n’bass nights in Montreal. these are some of the records i was playing back then, alongside fellow residents Wig (now Ghostbeard) and Andrew Interchill. i’ve just added 20 years experience and an extra turntable to the mix. oh yeah, this is also the 4th anniversary mix for this site, thanks for listening.

Dust Devils Of Mars

dust devils are strong, well-formed and relatively long-lived whirlwinds that can get up to 10 meters wide and more than 1000 meters tall, on Earth. On Mars they are up to 50 times wider, 10 times higher and seem to have a life of their own. this is the kind of abstracted hip hop beatscapes they listen to.

Saul Kane, founder of DC Recordings) is a mad combination of dirty hip hop beats, analog synths, kung fu, spaghetti westerns, animal noises, lsd, sex, violence, soccer, raves, aliens, electro, psychosis, mad scientists, dub, zombies, drums, robots, huge sound systems, vampire witches, a dark sense of humor and a deft ear for a samples. some of my all time favorite music.

this is an ode to one of my favorite labels from the 1990s, one that opened my ears to some new and fucked up sounds. this mix weaves in and out of DJ Shadow‘s epic soundscape ‘In/Flux’, my introduction to the nether worlds of sonic exploration, beat craftsmanship and Planet Of The Apes samples. it’s some scientific abstract type shit, and it’s for those who miss Mo Wax.
